The Bar-tailed Godwit is widespread in summer across northern Europe and Asia, and also crosses the Bering Strait to nest in western Alaska. According to the Audubon Society, Bar-tailed Godwits in Alaska fly non-stop eight days, 6,200 miles, to the Yellow Sea on the way to New Zealand with no rest, no turning back, and only the great open ocean below.
