Daibutsu is a colossal statue that is the world's largest gilded bronze Buddha. It is housed in an all-wood building, the Daibutsu-den, 157 feet in height, is the largest wooden building in the world. The hand of the Buddha is 8.5 feet high, the head is 22 feet high, and the eyes are 9.8 feet wide. His hair is made of 966 individual bronze balls. Creating this massive bronze Buddha in the 700s occupied much of Japan's bronze production for many years.
