Polish Army Memorial. Stark modern monument 0.3 miles north of the Old Town, dedicated to the local armed forces that resisted the German invasion of 1939 for almost two weeks. U.S. Vice President Pence had been here attending a memorial ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the beginning of World War II a few days prior to our visit and the flowers from that ceremony were still here.
